Traveling at the speed of light.
Fiction Theory
So far the fastest man made object is unmanned Helios 2 which travels at the speed of 150,000 MPH and is orbiting our sun. But imagine one of the ways how a man can achieve a speed as that of the light. Light is made up of photons and it travels at 186,000 miles per second speed.
Talking about fiction or any possibilities hundreds of years ago humans predicted that in near future there would be flying birds of steel and today we know there are air planes and we all travel from one. So right now there is nothing wrong in saying that if humans manage to create an object which can be pushed by the photons, or the light? That means if somehow they manage to push an object with the help of light then that would mean it would be right be in front of light and that way it will be traveling at the speed of light.
How can light possibly push an object?
It would depend on the distance between photons in light. The first task would be to reduce the distance between photons in a given beam of light, then to concentrate the number of traveling photon at any given point on a beam of light. One of the ways that can be done is by a lens. Trying this out on an existing LASER technology would help a lot in this experiment.
Once the light beam becomes dense then they need to try if it works or not by placing the lightest object ever made by human and if not may it be the bird feather, paper bits or the human hair.
So basicaly if this beam of light manages to push any object then it would be traveling at the speed of light because of the dense photon emission.
The weight of an object will depend on the velocity of this dense photon beam of light because the size of a photon is not even visible to human eye and hence it wont be able to push an object further if its not emitted with a high speed, which is one of the assumption that high speed dense photon beam of light would be able to push a lightest object.
Ok, it worked what next?
If it happens to work on a lightest object ever made then it is time to think about using it on bigger object. One of the ways to achieve this is to reverse engineer the above experiment and use the Newton’s third law or motion which says that “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”
Which means if first object is able to push the second object with some energy in one direction, then the first object will get pushed back in the opposite direction equally hard.
Here, imagine the first object is a light weight compact space craft. The reason to try this out in space is because there wont be any external factors affecting the speed of an object because of no gravity space. So this space craft should have a photon burst emitter at its back as a booster which will keep ?firing highly concentrated beams of photons or say light.
Each burst would create some action/force or a push in an open space and a burst will push the craft in an opposite direction and hence each burst would keep increasing the velocity of the craft until it reaches some good speed enough to cross existing speed record.
If this does not make an object travel at the speed of light it would at least make it reach the highest speed. If not get pushed by light then let it get dragged by photon rain.
